Avengers: Endgame to be re-released in theaters ahead of Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Studios has announced that Avengers: Endgame will be re-released in theaters on September 25, 2026, ahead of the December release of Avengers: Doomsday.

The move aims to engage fans and provide a refresher on the events of the previous blockbuster before the highly anticipated sequel.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time portraying classic villain Doctor Doom. The re-release of Endgame highlights the creative collaboration of the Russo brothers and the ensemble cast, which helped make the original film a global phenomenon. Dozens of returning and new Marvel characters, including those from Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and X-Men, are set to appear in the upcoming sequel.

Originally released on April 26, 2019, Avengers: Endgame quickly became one of the most successful films in cinematic history. Domestically, it grossed $858 million, placing it second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Internationally, it earned $1.941 billion, making it second behind Avatar, and its worldwide total of $2.799 billion ranks second globally. The film also set a record for the biggest opening weekend worldwide with $1.2 billion.

Marvel Studios continues to emphasize theatrical releases, with company president Kevin Feige stating at CinemaCon in April 2024, “We make movies for movie theaters because that’s where movies belong.” The re-release of Endgame is expected to boost box office numbers and generate renewed excitement for the Phase 6 finale of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
