Sydney Sweeney hairstylist responds after critic calls her 'Tonight Show' look the ‘stiffest wig’

Sydney Sweeney’s longtime hairstylist Glen “Coco” Oropeza has responded to criticism of the actress’s recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The exchange unfolded after internet personality Blakely Thornton posted an Instagram Reel on Monday, December 1, describing Sweeney’s hairstyle as “the stiffest wig” and linking the look to what he characterised as MAGA-associated styling.

In the Reel, which featured a green screen image of Sweeney, Thornton said he believed the actress and her team were “committed to the bit,” adding, “Why else would you go on a late-night talk show looking like Effie Trinket’s lost niece? The stiffest wig this side of the Mississippi unless you want to get read for filth.”

Thornton later shared an additional Reel that included screenshots of an alleged comment exchange between himself and Oropeza. “It’s 11pm and I’m feeling petty,” he captioned the post, though the comments now appear to have been removed.

According to the screenshots, Oropeza disputed Thornton’s claim, writing, “Wasn't a wig but you can’t get my girl’s name out of your mouth. You’re obsessed.”

He followed with another message stating, “Stiff where? You’re doing a lot … Take a breath, diva. You can keep trying to spin a narrative, but we all know you just need click bait cuz your content is TIRED. If you need attention, just say that.”

He concluded by questioning the level of scrutiny directed at a hairstyle “you didn’t create” and a woman “who doesn’t know you exist.”

Thornton responded by suggesting the stylist was working late to defend Sweeney, writing, “I hope you get paid overtime for being a sycophant after 9pm PST.” He added that “Black people are tired,” before wishing Oropeza “good luck on the rest of the press tour.”

Thornton has previously shared critical views on Sweeney’s fashion choices and noted his disapproval of her associations with high-profile figures, including Jeff Bezos.
