'Euphoria' season 3 set for April premiere as Sam Levinson outlines character futures

HBO confirms 'Euphoria' season 3 for April as Sam Levinson reveals new storylines and major character developments

HBO has confirmed that Euphoria Season 3 will premiere in April, marking more than four years since the Season 2 finale. Creator Sam Levinson shared new details about the long-awaited return during an HBO Max presentation in London, offering a preview of where the story picks up.

The teen drama resumes five years after the previous season, with Levinson explaining that the time jump reflects a point when the characters would have moved through college. He revealed that Rue, played by Zendaya, is “south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie, trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off.”

Levinson said that Cassie, portrayed by Sydney Sweeney, “is living in the suburbs with Nate, they’re engaged and she’s very addicted to social media and envious of what appears to be the big lives that all of her high school classmates are living.”

He added: “I feel strongly this is our best season yet… I will say that Cassie and Nate do in fact get married. I’m confirming it. And I promise that it will be an unforgettable night.”

Other character updates include Jules, played by Hunter Schafer, attending art school and feeling anxious about a career as a painter, while trying to avoid responsibility.

Maddy is working in Hollywood at a talent agency and continuing her own side projects. Lexi is now an assistant to a showrunner portrayed by Sharon Stone, whom Levinson described as “absolutely delightful and a true icon.”

Season 3 features a large returning ensemble alongside newcomers including Rosalía, Trisha Paytas, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler and Marshawn Lynch.

Several previous cast members, including Austin Abrams and Algee Smith, do not appear on HBO’s current cast list, while Storm Reid has said her character will not return. Barbie Ferreira departed the series in 2022, and Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, passed away in 2023.

Euphoria follows a group of teenagers navigating addiction, relationships, crime and betrayal, and has become one of HBO’s most-watched series.
