Reddit is preparing to phase out r/popular as a default feed and replace it with more personalized, interest-based options, CEO Steve Huffman announced.
He said r/popular “sucks” and no longer reflects the broader Reddit community, noting that it mainly highlights content favored by the platform’s most active users. Some users may begin seeing the change as early as this week.
Huffman said Reddit has moved beyond the idea of a universal “front page” and wants new feeds that better match individual preferences.
The company is also moving forward with new moderator rules that limit users to overseeing no more than five communities with over 100,000 weekly visitors starting March 31st, 2026, a move aimed at curbing the influence of “powermods.”
Reddit has not revealed specific details about the upcoming feeds but says it is in early testing and expects to share more as the redesign develops.
