Bon Appétit, Your Majesty ended its summer run as one of 2025’s most talked-about K-dramas, blending cooking, romance, and historical intrigue in a way that captivated audiences.

At the centre of this success is the original web novel Surviving as Yeonsangun’s Chef by Park Guk-jae, whose story inspired the drama and a later webtoon reboot.

Starring Im Yoon-ah and produced by Studio Dragon, the drama became a cultural favourite praised for its performances, vivid narrative style, and the elaborate traditional dishes recreated on screen. The finale prompted immediate calls for a second season, leading fans back to Park Guk-jae’s work to learn whether more story exists.

Park Guk-jae reflected on the renewed attention with modesty. “Honestly, the web novel wasn’t a huge mega-hit during serialization,” he said. “But I’m happy that the drama brought new attention to it."

He explained that the novel’s creation came from a straightforward desire to write something accessible and that adaptation was always a goal as the rights were secured before the novel reached its midpoint.

As for Season 2, he confirmed firm plans. “I have a lot to tell in Season 2. The synopsis and basic structure are already done. Details are still being developed.” He hopes to release the original novel’s continuation, the drama, and the webtoon in parallel if the project moves forward.

He added that the side stories could lead into the new arc, particularly the mystery of how the tyrant ends up in the modern world. Spin-offs are also possible, with a broader universe already in development.
