The first full trailer for People We Meet on Vacation offers a detailed look at Poppy and Alex’s long-running tradition of travelling together while trying to ignore their growing feelings for one another.
The Netflix adaptation stars Emily Bader as Poppy and Tom Blyth as Alex, bringing Emily Henry’s bestselling 2021 novel to the screen after its impressive commercial success, which includes more than 2 million copies sold and a debut at number one on The New York Times bestseller list.
The film follows the pair over a decade of holidays, shifting between present day and flashbacks to their earlier adventures. Viewers are shown moments that readers will recognise, including lively nights in New Orleans, a disastrous camping trip and the trip to Norway that Alex skips to support Poppy when she unexpectedly falls ill.
According to the film’s synopsis, their carefully maintained friendship becomes strained as each begins to confront what others have long assumed: that they may be better suited as partners than platonic travel companions.
Henry has praised the casting, remarking that she watched the chemistry test between Blyth and Bader multiple times and found it increasingly compelling. The supporting cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook as Sarah, alongside Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck and Molly Shannon.
Filming took place in 2025, with early images and brief audio clips sparking interest among readers and Netflix audiences.
The film will be the first of several planned adaptations of Henry’s work, with Beach Read, Funny Story, Book Lovers and Happy Place all in development. People We Meet on Vacation will premiere on Netflix on January 9, 2026.
