CD Projekt confirms The Witcher 4 won’t release in 2026, outlining a six-year plan for the new trilogy

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not launch in 2026 and shared plans to release the new Ciri-fronted Witcher trilogy within six years.

Speaking during the studio’s Q3 earnings call, joint CEO Michał Nowakowski explained that The Witcher 4 is in full-scale production and progressing at a regular pace.

He said, “The Witcher 4 is in the full-scale production phase. We're not disclosing any details regarding the target release date. The only thing we're commenting is that we're not launching in 2026, and we're also not typically getting into any specifics regarding technical or design matters.”

Nowakowski added that the subsequent games in the trilogy are expected to arrive more quickly. “Our plan still is to launch the whole trilogy within a six-year period, so yes, that would mean we would plan to have a shorter development time between TW4 and TW5, between TW5 and TW6 and so on.”

The studio recently showcased The Witcher 4 using Unreal Engine 5 in a tech demo at Unreal Fest, demonstrating progress in large open-world development. CD Projekt has increased the team working on The Witcher 4 to 447 people and has extended resources for Cyberpunk 2 development.

Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion Phantom Liberty remain the company’s top-selling titles, outperforming The Witcher 3 in a similar post-release period, according to CFO Piotr Nielubowicz.

The Witcher 4 was nominated for the Most Anticipated Game award at this year’s The Game Awards, but CD Projekt confirmed that no new content would be presented at the event.

Assuming the current plan proceeds, The Witcher 4 could release in 2027, followed by The Witcher 5 in 2030 and The Witcher 6 in 2033. Fans remain attentive to development updates as CD Projekt navigates multiple ongoing projects, including Cyberpunk 2 and a potential Witcher 1 remake.
