Scarlett Johansson has once again defended her support for filmmaker Woody Allen, emphasizing that standing by him reflects personal integrity despite criticism across Hollywood.
Johansson, known for roles in Allen’s Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006), and Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), addressed the controversy in a recent interview.
In 2019, Johansson stated that she loves Allen, believes him, and would work with him again. Speaking on potential fallout, she said, “You never know what the domino effect is exactly. But my mom always encouraged me to be myself… it’s important to have integrity and stand up for what you believe in.”
The allegations against Allen, first made by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow in 1992 and revived during the #MeToo movement, were investigated by authorities and never resulted in charges. Allen has consistently denied the claims. Johansson remains one of the few high-profile actors publicly supporting the Oscar-winning filmmaker, while other stars, including Timothée Chalamet, Greta Gerwig, and Colin Firth, have distanced themselves.
Her comments have generated significant discussion on X, with users expressing criticism and debating the implications of her stance. The topic quickly trended, reflecting ongoing public discourse about celebrity responsibility and accountability.

It’s lowkey funny how she doesn’t see a difference between the way survivors are often left to shout alone into the void, and how she feels she isn’t being supported in wtv she’s yammering on about here pic.twitter.com/IEg186a8pe
Johansson made these remarks while promoting her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, which premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. She emphasized the importance of standing firm in one’s beliefs, even under scrutiny, reinforcing her position as one of Hollywood’s outspoken voices on integrity and personal conviction.
