Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always prioritised public service and national stability throughout its 58-year political journey, a mission he vowed will continue under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Addressing a PPP workers' convention on Sunday, Kundi said the party had faced many ups and downs over the decades but consistently worked for resolving public issues and strengthening democratic norms. He said Pakistan's nuclear programme, initiated by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, laid a strong foundation for the country's defence. "It is because of this programme that Pakistan has been able to counter India not only militarily but also diplomatically," he noted.
Highlighting the party's welfare initiatives, the governor said the Sindh government is providing housing to low-income families, while the Benazir Income Support Programme continues to support over one million underprivileged households. "PPP has always stood for roti, kapra aur makaan and created employment opportunities for the people," he said, adding that the party also fulfilled its promise by reinstating employees dismissed due to political victimisation.
Discussing the security situation, Kundi said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was facing serious challenges and stressed the need for coordinated efforts against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on both sides of the border.
"The attacks in Islamabad, Dera Ismail Khan and on the FC Headquarters were acts of the enemy, and our forces bravely thwarted them," he said, reaffirming that restoring peace in the province remained the top priority.
The governor underlined the importance of cooperation between the federal and provincial governments. "A province cannot function without the federation. While Punjab and Sindh compete for development, we are fighting for peace," he remarked.
Addressing party workers, Kundi urged them to resolve internal differences through dialogue, saying unity and discipline would strengthen PPP in the province.
