FKA twigs reflects on North West’s maturity and their collaboration on new album Eusexua

FKA twigs discusses working with North West on her album Eusexua and the influence the collaboration had on her

FKA twigs has spoken about her collaboration with North West on her album Eusexua, reflecting on the 12-year-old’s approach to music and the impact their work together had on her.

In a cover story for Rolling Stone UK, the singer discussed the track “Childlike Things”, on which North delivers a rap verse in Japanese.

The artist, whose real name is Tahlia Debrett Barnett, said the collaboration held personal significance because she first wrote the track when she was around 12 or 13. She explained that the song was one of her earliest attempts at writing music and that revisiting it with North created a sense of continuity across generations.

Twigs said: “I feel like she’s seen so much and she’s so mature in a lot of ways, especially emotionally.” She added that during dinners together, North made remarks that she found “big and profound”, noting that the observations about humility reflected lessons she had learned in adulthood.

Twigs described the track as a meaningful moment of connection with her younger self. She said she had been bullied during school and did not have a close friendship group at the time she originally wrote the song.

She explained that returning to it decades later allowed her to imagine “a tenacious, confident friend like North West” offering support to her younger self.

North’s appearance on Eusexua follows other musical collaborations this year, including her feature on Christian “King” Combs’ track “Lonely Roads”.

Twigs also continues to develop the Eusexua project, recently releasing Eusexua Afterglow, a deluxe edition of the record.

Speaking to the publication, she said that every sound on the album feels precise, describing it as “the most distilled version of the message”, while emphasising that creative ideas can evolve over time.
