QUETTA:

Two explosions struck Quetta's Qambrani Road on Saturday in what authorities suspect were coordinated attempts targeting security personnel.

The blasts, occurring minutes apart, hit a police checkpoint and a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) vehicle, though fortunately no casualties were reported.

Police said the first blast occurred when unidentified assailants on a motorcycle threw a hand grenade at a police check post along the busy thoroughfare. Moments later, a second explosion went off nearby. Investigators confirmed this blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a motorcycle and detonated remotely as a CTD team approached the first attack site. The vehicle and its personnel remained unharmed.

Security sources expressed growing concern over Balochistan's deteriorating law-and-order situation, noting a recent surge in militant activity across multiple districts. Only a day prior, three separate explosions were reported in Mach town of Kachhi and Mastung's Major Chowk, leaving one injured and prompting armed exchanges with security forces.

Earlier this week, the Jaffar Express narrowly avoided an attack in the Bolan Pass, marking the sixth attempt on the train in six weeks. These incidents follow the deadly September 30 bombing near the Frontier Corps headquarters in Quetta, which killed at least 10 people and left over 30 injured.

Authorities are investigating potential links between the recent incidents in Quetta and other attacks, while security forces intensify patrols and intelligence monitoring in high-risk areas.
