MUZAFFARABAD:

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Supreme Court Chief Justice Raja Saeed Akram Khan and senior judge Justice Raza Ali Khan distributed appreciation shields to journalists in recognition of their exceptional coverage of the top court's golden jubilee celebrations held in September.

The shield-awarding ceremony took place at the Supreme Court and was addressed by the chief justice.

The top judge lauded the media for its coverage of the Supreme Court's golden jubilee events, describing the Court's 50-year milestone as a historic achievement. He also commended journalists for positively projecting the image of AJK and Pakistan internationally. He noted that the people of AJK have their own Supreme Court to adjudicate their matters whereas cases from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) are heard by the Indian Supreme Court in New Delhi.

He added that the participation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, judges from all four provinces, and members of the Gilgit-Baltistan judiciary in the golden jubilee judicial conference was highly encouraging. The conference, he said, also conveyed a message of solidarity across the Line of Control (LoC). "Pakistan remains the centre of our hopes," he remarked.

Chief Justice Khan further observed that AJK's judicial institutions are performing their duties with integrity and within their constitutional limits. He expressed pride that the judiciary of Pakistan also draws guidance from the judgments of AJK courts. He highlighted AJK's rich legacy of distinguished judges and underscored the essential role of the media in the modern era.

On this occasion, the chief justice presented appreciation shields to Sardar Zulfiqar Ali (Vice Chairman of the Press Foundation), senior journalists Muhammad Aslam Mir, Sajjad Qayyum, Muhammad Arif Urfi, Sardar Raza, Syed Afaq Hussain Shah, AJK Television's General Manager Ghazanfar Abdullah, PTV's Raja Adeel Khan and Information Department officers Raja Muhammad Sohail Khan and Raja Abdul Basit Khan.
