Muni Long has sparked discussion online after sharing a promotional skit for her upcoming single Delulu that featured a Mariah Carey impersonator. In the clip, the impersonator lip-syncs while striking an exaggerated diva pose, ending with Long saying, “I just don’t like when other people sing my songs.” Fans quickly connected the remark to Carey, who earlier this year commented on Long’s cover of her 2005 hit We Belong Together, saying she was flattered but that she generally does not like others performing her songs.

After the backlash, Long addressed the situation on her Instagram Story, insisting she meant no disrespect. “Y’all don’t be delulu. I would never disrespect Queen Mariah!!!!!! Forever a Lamb,” she wrote, emphasising her admiration for Carey and claiming the skit was intended as humour in promotion of her new single.

Fans remain divided. Supporters of Long argue the clip is a creative promotional tool, typical of music marketing in the social media era. Others have suggested it borders on shade, pointing to the timing and content of the video. What is clear is that the skit reignited interest in both Long’s upcoming release and her past tribute to Carey at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
