Ireland Baldwin is pushing back after Kim Kardashian was seen with what critics claim is an extremely rare elephant-skin Hermès Birkin on her Hulu series All’s Fair, sparking a fresh ethical debate in the fashion world.

In a viral Instagram Reel posted by fashion commentator Daniel Wesson, Kardashian appears on set carrying a gray Birkin said to be crafted from vintage elephant leather, a material Hermès is no longer associated with.

Clips of Kardashian holding the bag both in character and between takes quickly triggered backlash, including from Baldwin.

Responding under the reel and later on her Instagram Stories, Baldwin called the alleged bag choice “disgusting” and “shameful,” questioning why celebrities continue to receive support for decisions she sees as ethically dismissive.

Fashion observers online echoed the concern, noting claims that while Hermès never officially sold elephant-skin Birkins, a small number were custom-made decades ago using skins supplied by private clients.

Those rare pieces occasionally surface through high-end resale platforms, often stirring controversy when they do.

Kardashian, long known for her extensive Birkin collection, has not commented on the criticism. For All’s Fair, she worked with stylist Soki Mak to create the polished, high-power aesthetic of Allura Grant, a character Mak has described as bold, unapologetic, and unconcerned with public perception.

Mak told Vogue that Allura’s wardrobe was designed to spark conversation, saying the team embraced dramatic silhouettes, archival pieces, and looks meant to convey total confidence.
