D4vd reportedly not cooperating with police in Celeste Rivas case after body found in abandoned Tesla

Police reportedly state D4vd declined interviews while investigators continue reviewing evidence

According to reporting from PEOPLE, singer d4vd — born David Anthony Burke — is currently not cooperating with investigators who are examining the death of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was found in the trunk of his impounded Tesla earlier this year.

A police source told PEOPLE exclusively that the 20-year-old musician has “not cooperated from the start,” and that officers have not yet been able to interview him. The source also clarified that investigators have not determined which specific crimes d4vd or any possible accomplices may have committed, as the case remains active.

Although d4vd was previously said by his representative — in a statement to NBC Los Angeles — to be “fully cooperating,” the police source told PEOPLE the opposite, adding that d4vd is currently identified as a suspect. However, no charges have been filed pending further evidence, including a final determination from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, whose findings on cause and manner of death are still listed as “deferred.”

Authorities still do not know exactly when Rivas died, though investigators estimate, based on the condition of her body, that she had likely been deceased for several weeks before being found. The police source told PEOPLE that “springtime” is the closest they have come to establishing a timeline.

Rivas’ body was discovered on September 8, the day after her 15th birthday, inside a plastic bag placed in the trunk of d4vd’s abandoned Tesla in the Hollywood Hills. Neighbors reported the vehicle had been left unattended for roughly a month and called authorities after noticing a strong odor. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later confirmed her identity.

The LAPD previously classified the investigation as a homicide case, and another police source told PEOPLE earlier that whoever was involved in Rivas’ death “most likely had help dismembering and disposing of the body.”

Rivas, who had reportedly run away multiple times in the past, had been listed as missing in Riverside County on several occasions, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Investigators have also executed a search warrant at a Hollywood Hills residence where the singer had been staying, PEOPLE reported via local outlets KABC-TV and the Los Angeles Times.

As of this week, neither the LAPD, the singer’s attorney, nor a representative for d4vd responded to PEOPLE’s most recent requests for comment.
