Actress and comedian Rachel Sennott has received significant online criticism after sharing a controversial opinion during her appearance on Subway Takes with Kareem Rahma.

When asked for her hot take, she said, “Everyone needs to get addicted to one thing at least once in their life to prove to themselves that they can break an addiction.“

Rahma immediately disagreed, responding, “You don’t want to play with the fire.” Sennott continued the discussion by reflecting on her own experience, explaining, “I’m half Irish. My entire life, my dad was like, ‘watch out, addiction will get you’, and I was like, ‘No, it won’t’. And then it did a little. And then I fought the demons.” She said she “dabbled in nicotine” for about a year and is currently “pulling away.”

The comment drew swift reactions from viewers, particularly those with personal experience of addiction. One user wrote, “As someone who has had to pull themselves out of the depths of addiction and wouldn’t wish that upon anyone, this is the most loser take I’ve ever seen in my life.“

Sennott later softened her position, saying she meant people could become attached to something like a “weird workout routine”, and added, “I was addicted to laxatives for one year.”

She acknowledged the potential harm of her statement, admitting, “My take is ultimately wrong, and dangerous, and bad. You said opioids, and I went, ‘F*ck’, I didn’t mean it like that.”

Beyond the controversy, Sennott is currently starring in the Hollywood satire I Love LA, which premiered in November 2025 and has already been renewed for a second season.

Known for roles in Shiva Baby, Bodies Bodies Bodies and Bottoms, she has also gained online attention from past viral comedy videos, including her “valley girl” parody in which she joked, “It’s LA! I’m addicted to drugs. We all are. If you don’t have an eating disorder, get one b*tch!”
