Traffic e-challan system becomes operational today
.

Under the Rawalpindi Safe City Project, the automated e-challan system for traffic violations has been formally activated from today.
Surveillance cameras installed on major roads will capture images of violating vehicles, and the violation code and image will be sent to the vehicle owner in the form of an e-challan, who will be required to deposit the fine within the stipulated period.
According to sources, the e-challan system has been linked to the Safe City Command and Control Centre's traffic management system, and electronic challaning through automated CCTV cameras has begun today. A senior police officer confirmed to The Express Tribune that the system is now operational in Rawalpindi.
The officer said traffic signal violations, riding motorcycles without helmets, using mobile phones while driving, negligent driving, not wearing seatbelts, illegal or non-standard number plates, and lane violations will be recorded through Safe City cameras.
Upon recording any violation, the fine will be issued automatically and sent to the violator's home address.
