Noah Centineo in talks to join Sydney Sweeney in Legendary’s live-action ‘Gundam’ movie

Noah Centineo is in talks to star opposite Sydney Sweeney

Noah Centineo may be boarding another major franchise. The actor is in negotiations to join Sydney Sweeney in Legendary’s big-budget, live-action adaptation of Gundam, the classic mecha-driven anime universe.

Centineo is already working with Legendary on Street Fighter and could now reteam with the studio for the sci-fi war epic, which is being directed by Jim Mickle, the creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. Mickle also wrote the script for the currently untitled feature.

Sweeney is set to lead the film, and sources say she has been closely involved in the casting process for her co-stars.

The story reportedly centers on her character and the male lead, two people on opposing sides of an interplanetary conflict who form a forbidden connection, evoking a Romeo & Juliet dynamic against a backdrop of war.

Based on the iconic 1979 anime, Gundam is set in the Universal Century, a period when humanity has expanded into space colonies.

Tensions between Earth and the colonies erupt into a large-scale war fought with towering pilot-operated robots known as mechas.

Legendary declined to comment on the negotiations, which remain sensitive. The studio had previously been in talks with Outer Banks actor Drew Starkey for the male lead, but those discussions did not move forward.

Centineo rose to fame with the hit Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and has since expanded into action roles, including Atom Smasher in Black Adam. He recently joined the cast of A24’s war drama Warfare and is preparing to film a Rambo prequel early next year.

If the deal closes, Centineo will step into one of the most storied sci-fi franchises ever created—just as Legendary builds momentum with its growing slate of gaming and anime adaptations.
