Kim Do-yeon wins Blue Dragon best new actress award after breaking idol-to-actor stereotypes
Actor Kim Do-yeon has earned the Best New Actress honor at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards, marking a major career milestone as she continues to shed the label of being a former idol singer. According to OSEN, the ceremony was held on 19 November at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, with actors Han Ji-min and Lee Je-hoon serving as co-hosts.
Kim received the award for her performance in Amoeba Girls and School Ghosts: Founder’s Day, a role that critics and audiences have praised for displaying her growth as an actor. Her win carried additional meaning because fellow nominee Kim Min-joo, also a former member of the project girl group I.O.I, was in the same category. OSEN reported that Kim Do-yeon became emotional as soon as her name was announced, reflecting on the journey from her idol debut to achieving recognition in film.
In her acceptance speech, Kim expressed deep gratitude to director Kim Min-ha, saying the filmmaker’s passion and kindness consistently encouraged her during production. She also thanked producer Park Se-jun, the cast and crew who worked through a demanding winter shooting schedule, and the audiences who supported the movie. Kim credited her acting teacher for helping her believe in her abilities at a time when she doubted herself, adding that she hopes to repay that support through her future work.
The actor also paid tribute to her family and her agency, Fantagio, for their constant support. Reflecting on her beginnings as an idol, Kim acknowledged fans who have followed her from her days performing on stage to her current acting career. She admitted she had not expected awards to matter to her, but now realizes how meaningful the recognition feels.
Kim concluded her speech with a promise to continue growing thoughtfully as an artist, adding that she aims to move forward without hesitation as she builds her acting career.
