JUI-F rejects 27th Amendment
Ameer Senator Maulana Atta ur Rehman of JUI (F)
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chapter has rejected the 27th Constitutional Amendment, terming it "a conspiracy against the Islamic Constitution and contrary to national interests."
The party also announced that a provincial-level Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Conference will be held in Mardan on December 14, where JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman will deliver a keynote address and unveil the party's future course of action.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the party's provincial executive committee held at Mufti Mahmood Markaz, Peshawar, presided over by provincial Ameer Senator Maulana Attaur Rehman. The meeting was attended by provincial general secretary Senator Maulana Attaul Haq Dervish, vice presidents Mufti Ubaidullah, Mufti Fazl Ghafoor and Maulana Abdul Haseeb Haqqani, as well as provincial office-bearers Mufti Nasir Mahmood, Muhammad Raheem Haqqani, Imad Azam Advocate, information secretary Abdul Jalil Jan, provincial salar Muhammad Israr Marwat, and JUI Teachers' Convenor Maulana Ahmad Ali Dervish.
During the briefing, Senator Attaul-Haq Dervish said the 27th amendment had been passed by ignoring legal and constitutional requirements. Senator Attaur Rehman added that the amendment was pushed through "under pressure," asserting that provisions removed under the 26th Amendment had been reintroduced, undermining the sanctity of the Constitution and Parliament.
The provincial executive unanimously rejected the amendment, declaring it unconstitutional. It also finalized preparations for the upcoming Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Conference.
