Seth Meyers responds to Donald Trump’s call for NBC to fire him during latest Late Night episode

Seth Meyers responds on air to Donald Trump call for NBC to dismiss him, as FCC chair amplified the demand

Seth Meyers used Monday’s episode of “Late Night With Seth Meyers” to address Donald Trump’s renewed call for NBC to fire him, a demand that FCC chair Brendan Carr also reposted online. Trump criticised the host on Truth Social over the weekend, prompting Meyers to respond in his “A Closer Look” segment.

Meyers began by framing Trump’s post as “this thoughtful piece of fan mail,” before reacting to a Newsmax clip covering the criticism. “You guys, they said my name on TV. It’s not often you hear the name Seth Meyers on TV before midnight,” he said.

He went on to compare Trump’s anger to an “angry driver who honks and flips you off,” adding that being attacked does not make him unusual, as Trump had also expressed frustration with figures such as Christopher Wray, James Comey, Indiana Republicans, Thomas Massie, Rand Paul, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Joe Biden. Meyers noted that Trump had also posted a 2008 article about Sean Connery, remarking that it was unusual for the most positive comment to be from an older piece by someone who had died.

Meyers then examined a line in Trump’s post describing him as being in “an uncontrollable rage,” comparing the phrasing to dialogue “a dowager countess says in a Victorian murder mystery.” The host also pointed out that Friday’s programme was a rerun and suggested that a previous monologue involving an electric catapult may have prompted Trump’s latest reaction.

Trump accused Meyers of having “an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome” and claimed his show was a “ratings disaster.” Carr reposted the message to his X account shortly afterward.

Meyers concluded by saying Trump has the right to criticise the show and joked about Trump’s past remarks regarding medical procedures. “Late Night With Seth Meyers” airs weekdays at 12:35 a.m. on NBC.
