Jack Black returned to Saturday Night Live for his fifth hosting appearance, officially joining the Five-Timers Club in an episode marked by musical performances and multiple celebrity cameos.

The episode, reviewed by Andy Hoglund and featuring commentary from former cast members, began with a cold open set during a Final Four post-game show. Kenan Thompson appeared as Charles Barkley, delivering satirical commentary that extended beyond basketball, while Ashley Padilla reprised her portrayal of Pam Bondi. Former cast member Gary Kroeger described the impression as “spot on” and said, “Keep it coming.”

Black’s monologue centred on his induction into the Five-Timers Club, with Jonah Hill appearing to welcome him before a series of surprise cameos. Tina Fey, Candice Bergen and Melissa McCarthy all featured in the sketch, with reports from dress rehearsal indicating additional unscripted moments.

The episode maintained a musical theme, with sketches including “Work Lunch”, where Ashley Padilla’s character repeatedly interrupts colleagues, prompting Black to respond, “Shut up Kathy,” and “Words to Live By”, a comedic ballad involving James Austin Johnson and Andrew Dismukes.

Another sketch, “Husbands”, showed male characters bonding through music, performing “Carry on Wayward Son” while their partners speculated about the awkwardness of their interaction.

Jack White appeared as the musical guest, performing “Derecho Demonico”, a newly released track. Kroeger praised the performance, stating, “Jack White is simply sublime… His work is intelligent, diverse, interesting and analog.”

Weekend Update addressed current affairs and popular culture, featuring appearances from characters including Kristi Noem and a reimagined Professor Snape. Additional segments, including a dating app sketch, were reportedly cut from the final broadcast.

The upcoming episode of SNL, set to be aired on April 11, will be hosted by Colman Domingo alongside Anitta as the musical guest.
