Sophie Grégoire, the ex-wife of former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, has broken her silence amid his public romance with Katy Perry. Speaking on the Arlene is Alone podcast, Grégoire, 50, described navigating the media attention and choosing to stay composed despite the scrutiny surrounding her ex’s relationship.
“We’re human beings and stuff affects us. Normal. How you react to stuff is your decision,” Grégoire explained. “I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.” She acknowledged feeling the full spectrum of emotions, disappointment, anger, sadness, but stressed she does not want to stay trapped in a reactive mode that could increase stress or judgment.
Grégoire also highlighted her dedication to maintaining family unity despite the divorce. She and Trudeau, who separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage, share three children: Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11. “We have separate lives, but we have one family life,” she said, noting that their children remain the priority in all decisions.
Her comments come weeks after Trudeau and Perry, 41, went public with their relationship in Paris. The couple had been romantically linked since July when they were spotted dining together in Montreal, with Trudeau attending Perry’s concert the following night. Perry recently confirmed her split from Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in July.
Grégoire’s measured response underscores her focus on emotional intelligence and mental health, highlighting the contrast between private coping and public fascination with celebrity relationships. Her remarks have sparked conversation online about how high-profile breakups are handled when media attention is intense.
