Karl-Anthony Towns received a special surprise from his long-time girlfriend Jordyn Woods on his 30th birthday as her heartfelt gift honoured his late mother's memory.
Woods revealed in an Instagram post shared on Saturday, that the car she had gifted Towns was the exact make and model of the one Jacqueline Cruz-Towns used to drive. Jacqueline passed away in April 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
“During the summer, Karl asked me if I could drive any car for a day, which one would it be,” Woods, 28, wrote in the caption of the post documenting the surprise. “I answered and his response was, ‘I wouldn’t pick anything crazy, I just really loved my mom’s car she had when I was a kid.’” From there, she said, “I went on a mission these past months to find the car, shipped it across the country, got it fixed up and was able to surprise him with it today for his 30th!”
In a video shared online, the New York Knicks star was visibly overcome with emotion as he sat in the restored vehicle. “This s**t is so fire,” he said, smiling. “This is the best thing ever.”
Towns and Woods have been in a relationship for five years prior to which they were close friends. Introduced by mutual friends, the pair connected over the loss of a parent, as Woods’ also lost her father to cancer in 2017.
