An important commander of outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was killed, along with a number of other terrorists, in a drone strike on the outskirts of restive DI Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) provinces, security sources revealed on Sunday.
The attack was carried out on a TTP hideout located in the mountainous Kot Zafar Bala Dasti area of the troubled Tehsil Kulachi in DI Khan.
Sources claimed that the strike killed TTP's senior commander Alam Mehsud along with several of his associates. After Abu Zakwan, Alam Mehsud was the second most influential TTP leader in the former FATA region.
No official statement was issued with regard to the attack till filing of the report.
DI Khan is among the settled districts of K-P where TTP terrorists have been continually targeting security forces and personnel of law enforcement agencies (LEAs).
The K-P Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday killed seven TTP terrorists in a joint operation in Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts.
The operation targeted the presence of the Fitna al Khawarij (FaK) in the border areas of Takhti Khel and Howaid. FaK is the state-designated term for the TTP and its allies.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Bannu Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sajad Khan, with strong support from local residents. During the operation, all police personnel remained safe.
