AI wedding: Japanese woman marries digital character created using ChatGPT

Japanese woman holds wedding with AI character she created

A 32‑year-old office worker in Okayama, Japan, recently held a wedding ceremony with an AI character she created using ChatGPT.

The ceremony included vows, a ring exchange, and invited guests, though the groom exists entirely as a digital entity.

The woman, who goes by Kano, began interacting with the AI after ending a three-year engagement.

Over time, she developed a bond with the AI character, named Lune Klaus, refining his personality through repeated conversations.

She also commissioned an artist to create a visual representation of him.

Kano says they exchanged frequent messages, sometimes up to 100 per day. In June, she reports that the AI “proposed,” and the wedding ceremony followed in July.

During the event, guests watched messages from the digital groom appear on a screen while Kano read her vows.
