Authorities in Texas are investigating the fatal police shooting of food influencer Michael Duarte, who died after an alleged confrontation with deputies in Castroville on November 8.

A representative for the Medina County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that deputies responded to a 911 call on November 8 in Castroville, Texas, after reports of a man with a knife behaving erratically.

When officers arrived, Duarte allegedly ignored multiple verbal commands to get on the ground and charged toward a deputy while yelling, “I’m going to kill you.” The deputy then fired two rounds, striking him.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was pronounced dead.

Initially, Duarte’s death was reported as a tragic travel accident, with early social media posts and a GoFundMe page describing the incident as a travel-related mishap.

Later law enforcement reports clarified that his death resulted from a police shooting.

Duarte’s agency, Alooma Media Group, confirmed his death, describing him as “a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend.”

Known online as @foodwithbearhands, Duarte amassed over 2 million followers across social media for his barbecue and grilling videos.

His death came just days after celebrating his wedding anniversary with his wife, Jessica.

He is survived by his wife and daughter. The deputy involved has been placed on leave as the investigation continues.
