Magistrates falter in curbing inflation

The district administration's 60 price control magistrates have failed to control inflation, as Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday bazaars have turned into centres of overpricing and substandard goods.
Meat sellers have raised prices further, with beef selling at Rs1,600 per kilogram and mutton at Rs2,500.
Other essentials also saw a steep hike. Sugar is priced between Rs200 and Rs210 per kilogram, flour at Rs160, and chicken meat at Rs525 per kilogram.
Eggs are selling at Rs700 per dozen for desi, Rs450 for brown, and Rs350 for broiler.
Milk is priced at Rs220 per litre, curd at Rs240 per kilogram, potatoes at Rs100, onions Rs250, garlic Rs600, ginger Rs800, peas Rs350, capsicum Rs300, bitter gourd Rs120, tomatoes Rs150, okra Rs250, carrots Rs150, radish Rs100, and coriander Rs50 per bunch.
