Oscar Isaac says he won’t work with Disney again or return to Star Wars until the company changes its approach

Oscar Isaac is reconsidering his potential return to the Star Wars franchise — but only if Disney changes its ways.

The actor, best known for playing Poe Dameron, recently spoke with GQ and expressed frustration with the entertainment giant following its decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this year amid backlash over the host’s comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Isaac, who had previously indicated he might reprise his role if there was “a worthwhile story,” told the magazine his stance has shifted. “I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney,” he said. “But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.”

The temporary suspension of Kimmel’s show drew widespread criticism and sparked protests over alleged censorship and threats to free speech. Several figures within the Star Wars community — including Pedro Pascal, Diego Luna, and Andor writer Dan Gilroy — also condemned Disney’s actions, calling them “deeply concerning” and “anti-creative.”

Though Jimmy Kimmel Live! was reinstated just days later following public outrage, the incident has left a mark on Isaac’s perception of the company. Still, he didn’t completely close the door on a future collaboration. “If that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things,” he added.

For now, it seems any return of Poe Dameron will depend less on storylines — and more on Disney’s ability to repair its reputation with its own stars.
