The state of Texas has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing the gaming company of misleading parents and exposing children to predators and explicit content on its platform.

The 72-page petition, filed on November 6 2025 by Attorney General Ken Paxton, claims Roblox violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by promoting itself as the “world’s safest gaming platform for kids” while allegedly allowing grooming, sexual content, and child exploitation to persist. The filing describes the platform as a “digital playground overrun by predators.”

According to the state, Roblox “knowingly enabled sexual exploitation and abuse of children” through in-game spaces that allow adults and minors to interact freely without sufficient age verification or moderation.

The suit cites examples such as virtual strip clubs and simulations referencing “Epstein Island,” alleging that some predators used the in-game currency, Robux, to target and exploit minors.

The lawsuit also claims Roblox executives were aware of the risks but chose to prioritise profit and user growth, implementing what Texas called an “ageing up” strategy after the company went public in 2021.

This approach allegedly sought to attract older players who “monetise better,” even as the majority of the platform’s 80 million daily users were under 18.

Texas further accuses Roblox of deceiving major app distributors — including Apple, Google, and Microsoft — by downplaying the prevalence of adult content to obtain “12+” and “Teen” age ratings. The filing states that recent policy updates from Roblox have been “far too little, far too late.”

The state is seeking civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, a permanent injunction, and a declaration that Roblox constitutes a public nuisance.

Roblox has faced growing scrutiny throughout 2025 regarding its child safety policies. In August, the company stated that vigilante predator hunters had inadvertently placed its community “at greater risk.”
