Global girl group KATSEYE have earned two nominations at the 2026 Grammy Awards, but their success has sparked controversy online.
When the nominations were released on November 8, fans celebrated seeing KATSEYE listed for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with their hit single "Gabriela" and for Best New Artist.
The six members—Lara, Megan, Sophia, Daniela, Manon, and Yoonchae—shared their excitement, calling the recognition a dream come true. Their fanbase, known as Eyekons, flooded social media with praise, celebrating how far the group has come in just one year.
However, the reaction was not entirely positive. Several online users questioned the legitimacy of KATSEYE’s nominations, alleging that parent company HYBE might have used its industry connections to secure votes.
Some commenters even accused Scooter Braun, who leads HYBE America, of pulling favours behind the scenes. The term “Hybe Payola” began trending as sceptics claimed the group’s recognition was influenced by corporate backing rather than musical merit.
Supporters of the group quickly defended KATSEYE, highlighting their consistent chart success, sold-out performances, and global reach. Many argued that the nominations were well-deserved given the group’s rapid rise, strong fan engagement, and streaming numbers. “They’ve worked hard since day one and earned every bit of this,” one fan wrote on X.
Despite the online debate, KATSEYE’s achievements mark a milestone for the group and their label, adding to HYBE’s growing presence on the global music stage. The controversy reflects ongoing discussions about industry influence and fairness in major award nominations.
The 2026 Grammy Awards are set to air on February 1, 2026.
