PM Shehbaz reaches Baku to attend Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrations

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Baku on Friday on an official visit to Azerbaijan, where he will attend events marking the fifth anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Victory Day.
Upon arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, PM Shehbaz was received by Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Yaqub Eyyubov, First Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, Pakistan’s Ambassador Qasim Mueenuddin, and diplomatic officials.
In a post on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the premier has been invited by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, to participate in events marking the Fifth Anniversary of Victory Day being observed in Baku, commemorating Azerbaijan’s success in liberating its territories from Armenian control.
Shehbaz is accompanied by Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar.

As per the ministry’s announcement, the leaders are to review bilateral relations between their countries, identifying and discussing avenues for deeper cooperation in sectors including trade and investment, energy, defence, education, and regional connectivity.
The announcement stated that “Pakistan enjoys long-standing fraternal relations with Azerbaijan, with the two countries maintaining cooperation in regional and international fora, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic Cooperation Organisation, and the United Nations.”

The prime minister’s visit will “reaffirm Pakistan’s steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” the FO's statement read, adding that the visit is to “further advance the strategic partnership between the two brotherly countries.”
The premier visit to Baku comes as deliberations continue over the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, which the federal government plans to introduce.
Last month, Shehbaz visited Saudi Arabia on invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Muhammad Bin Salman, and also undertook an official visit to Malaysia on the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim.
