In an incident in Shafiabad, Chak No. 61, within the jurisdiction of Mangli Police Station, Sanghar, a seven-month pregnant woman and mother of two was allegedly set ablaze by her in-laws. The victim, identified as Laila Rind, suffered burns over more than 40% of her body and was initially treated at Sanghar Civil Hospital before being shifted to Hyderabad due to her critical condition.
According to Laila's statement from the hospital bed despite her fragile state-her brothers-in-law Arbab, Mumtaz, and Mewa, along with female relatives, physically assaulted her before setting her on fire. Doctors have confirmed the severity of her injuries and expressed concern due to her pregnancy.
Allegations have also surfaced against Laila's husband, Mehram, who reportedly failed to inform police after the incident and is accused of attempting to shield his brothers. The victim named all suspects, prompting calls from the local community and her family for a thorough investigation.
They have urged SSP Sanghar to ensure justice by taking strict action against those responsible.
