KARACHI:

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department is set to expand its collaboration with Cambridge International by introducing the IGCSE programme as a pilot project in selected public schools.

The initiative aims to provide students in the public sector access to globally benchmarked education and prepare them for future challenges.

The announcement came during the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony held at a hotel in Karachi, where 317 high-achieving students from across Pakistan were honoured for their exceptional academic performance in Cambridge examinations. The event celebrated student dedication, perseverance, and success in attaining international standards of education.

According to Cambridge International, students from Sindh and Balochistan received a total of 120 awards this year. Among them, 26 students secured the highest marks globally in their subjects, while 53 topped their respective provinces. Nationally, 317 students earned 355 awards, including 83 for top marks worldwide, 63 for national distinction, and 11 High Achievement awards.

Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah, the chief guest, lauded the awardees, calling them "symbols of Pakistan's bright future." He emphasized the need for an education system that not only ensures exam success but also aligns with the country's economic development and social progress. "Our focus is on nurturing future-ready learners-creative, skilled, and adaptable to the demands of a modern world," he said.

Cambridge Exams Director for Pakistan, Amanda Ingram, also addressed the gathering. She acknowledged the complex global challenges students face today-such as inequality, health crises, and climate change-but expressed confidence in their resilience and sense of purpose. She encouraged students to pursue their passions, noting, "When you work in line with your interests, success finds its way to you."

Cambridge International Education Country Director Uzma Yousuf said: "Every year, we are inspired by the dedication, resilience, and talent of our learners across Pakistan. These outstanding results are a reflection not only of their hard work, but also of the unwavering support from their teachers, schools, and families. As our world continues to evolve - driven by innovation, technology, and new ways of learning - these learners stand as proof that strong foundations in education build the confidence and adaptability needed for the future. We are immensely proud of their achievements and the role our schools play in nurturing globally minded, future-ready learners."
