KARACHI:

For the first time since its establishment 14 years ago, the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University Lyari has appointed faculty members to the rank of professor. Despite being founded in 2012, the university had been functioning without a single professor and was run entirely by junior faculty, leaving all faculties without deans during this period.

According to a notification issued on November 5 from the office of the university registrar, Capt (retd) Raza Haider, three faculty members have now been promoted and appointed as professors. The promotions were approved under Resolution No. 3 of the Syndicate's 18th meeting held on July 21, 2025.

Dr Mazhar Ali has been appointed as Professor (BS-21) in the Department of Computer Science, Dr Umair Baig as Professor (BS-21) in the Department of Commerce, and Dr Khurram Shakir as Professor (BS-21) at the Benazir School of Business.

In addition, several faculty members have been promoted to the rank of associate professor (BS-20). They include Dr Anila Devi at the Business School and Dr Mudassir Hussain at the Commerce Department, while Dr Khadim Hussain and Dr Ibrahim Noorani have been appointed as associate professors in the Department of Public Administration.
