Miss Universe 2025 candidates walk out on Nawat Itsaragrisil after confrontation with Miss Mexico
Tensions within the Miss Universe 2025 competition escalated on Tuesday when several contestants reportedly walked out of an event after Thai executive Nawat Itsaragrisil confronted Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch.
The incident occurred ahead of a scheduled sashing ceremony at the delegates’ hotel in Bangkok and was broadcast live on the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page.
Nawat Itsaragrisil, director of the MGI pageant, faces criticism after publicly reprimanding and asking security to remove Miss Mexico from sash ceremony in Thailand.
Several delegate walked out in solidarity with Fátima Bosch. pic.twitter.com/XttGvHgoKZIn the livestream, Nawat was seen asking Miss Mexico to stand up before questioning her about her absence from a sponsor shoot while agreeing to be filmed by Telemundo. Bosch appeared visibly uncomfortable, and moments later she left the room, followed by several other contestants in a show of solidarity.
Nawat, who currently serves as Vice President for Asia and Oceania within the Miss Universe Organisation (MUO), also heads the local organising committee for this year’s competition.
He is the founder and president of Miss Grand International and recently became involved with Miss Universe operations after his company acquired shares from former MUO CEO Anne Jakrajutatip’s firm.
Observers have described the moment as the latest sign of internal tension within MUO, reportedly stemming from a growing power struggle between President Raul Rocha and Nawat.
Delegates and fans online have expressed concern that the dispute is beginning to overshadow the contestants and the competition itself.
The Miss Universe 2025 coronation night is set to take place in Bangkok on November 21. As of this writing, neither MUO nor Nawat Itsaragrisil has released an official statement regarding the walkout.
