Hatsune Miku to receive major AI vocal upgrade with multilingual support in 2026

Hatsune Miku will move to Yamaha’s VOCALOID 6 engine in 2026, adding AI-powered vocals and multilingual support

Hatsune Miku is set for a significant upgrade in 2026, as the virtual singer transitions to Yamaha’s VOCALOID 6 engine. The update introduces advanced AI-powered vocal synthesis and multilingual support, marking one of the biggest evolutions in Miku’s history.

According to developer Crypton, the upgrade will give producers access to enhanced vocal realism, improved pronunciation across multiple languages, and more expressive tone control. The update also includes AI phrasing tools designed to make vocal delivery smoother and more natural.

Miku, who first debuted in 2007, has seen her technology evolve with each engine release. The VOCALOID 6 platform represents a generational leap, using artificial intelligence to refine performance and maintain her position at the forefront of vocal synthesis innovation.

Crypton confirmed that the full release is planned for the first half of 2026. However, fans will be able to access an early Japanese-language version from mid-December 2025. The preview will be free for owners of existing Vocaloid-based Miku products.

The company stated that the new voice library is being rebuilt from Miku’s original recordings and optimised for the latest engine. Pricing and edition details for new users are yet to be announced, with more information on bundles and software compatibility expected closer to launch.

Earlier this year, Hatsune Miku also made headlines when Asus unveiled a custom gaming PC themed around the virtual idol, while a Japanese spacecraft that carried 13,000 fan messages dedicated to her concluded its 15-year mission in space.
