The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested Sub-Inspector Adnan Warraich on charges of bribery and misuse of authority following an inquiry into a complaint lodged by a local housing society owner.

According to ACE Lahore, a case has been registered against Warraich under Sections 409, 161, and 162 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) after investigators substantiated allegations made by Raja Babar Riaz, a resident of Westwood Colony.

The complainant alleged that while serving as Station House Officer (SHO) Sabzazar in November 2024, the accused officer demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs475,000 and two licenced firearms. The cash and weapons were allegedly collected from the complainant’s office near Thokar Niaz Baig.

The FIR and inquiry report further stated that Warraich, in alleged collusion with private individuals including Chaudhry Zulqarnain, misused his authority to harass the complainant and threatened false criminal cases when he refused to meet additional illegal demands.

Following verification of witness accounts and financial records, the Anti-Corruption Establishment registered the case on October 28 and apprehended the accused from the Chung Police Training Center. He has since been placed on a four-day physical remand for interrogation, while investigators work to determine whether other police officials were also involved.

Police records show that Warraich previously served as SHO of Mustafa Town Police Station and held several other postings across Lahore. An ACE spokesperson said the department remains committed to ensuring accountability within the public service, emphasising that “no one is above the law.”
