LAHORE:

An additional medical superintendent of the Services Hospital has accused several young doctors of assaulting him in his office.

AMS Emergency Dr Shakil Ahmad stated in his complaint submitted to the medical superintendent and Shadman police that he had been attacked by Young Doctors Associated members led by Dr Ali Iqbal, Mudassar, Sohaib, Nadir Baloch and Babar. He alleged that over 20 doctors barged into his office at around 11:30pm on Friday, threatened and beat him in front of hospital staff after he refused to bow to their pressure regarding administrative matters.

A YDA spokesperson contended that a young doctor had allegedly been assaulted by some individuals within the hospital premises, resulting in a head injury. The injured doctor had gone to the AMS office to submit a complaint regarding the incident, when an altercation broke out between the two.

The association stated that it had a neutral stance regarding the incident and demanded a transparent and impartial inquiry to fix responsibility. The spokesperson said the hospital administration had constituted an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

Sources in the hospital said the episode had been recorded on CCTV, showing the mob entering the office and engaging in a scuffle. They said a medical report had also confirmed injuries suffered by the AMS. Officials at Shadman Police Station confirmed receipt of the complaint and said the matter was still "under review".
