Personnel of the Levies Force in Balochistan's Panjgur district staged a massive protest on Saturday against the provincial government's decision to merge the force with the Balochistan Police, terming the move illegal, unconstitutional, and detrimental to their future.
The protest rally began at the Levies Headquarters and culminated at Mir Chakar Khan Rind Chowk, where participants chanted slogans and carried banners rejecting the merger.
Addressing the gathering, Risaldar Major Sabir Ali Kuchki, Dafadar Muhammad Azam, Rais Zubair Shah, and others said the merger lacked any legal or constitutional basis and had created uncertainty about the future of Levies personnel. They said issues of promotion, service structure, and administration had worsened, while the historic role and sacrifices of the Levies Force were being ignored.
Speakers rejected the notion that the Levies was a "failed institution," calling it an insult to those who laid down their lives for peace. They vowed to challenge the merger at all legal and constitutional forums, demanding immediate reversal of the decision.
They said the Levies Force represented Balochistan's tribal identity, self-reliance, and public trust, and urged the government to consult the people before taking such critical decisions.
