Due to the alleged negligence and inefficiency of the National Highway Authority (NHA), the GT Road in Gujranwala Division has deteriorated into a hazardous route, causing severe inconvenience to commuters. From Gakhar to Rahwali, large potholes and damaged patches have made driving extremely difficult, endangering both lives and property.
Residents report that punctured tires and vehicle breakdowns have become a daily occurrence, with three to four cases reported every day. Motorcyclists, in particular, face serious risks, as several have already been injured in accidents caused by the uneven surface. Locals say that traveling on the road feels like a constant ordeal, with vehicle repair costs now running into thousands of rupees each month.
Despite repeated written and verbal complaints, NHA officials have taken no tangible action. Citizens claim that officers remain confined to their offices while the road's condition worsens with each passing day.
Locals further point out that the GT Road serves as a vital artery connecting Lahore, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, and Sialkot, yet official neglect has turned it into a dangerous thoroughfare. Commuters warn that at night, the risk of vehicles overturning due to deep potholes increases significantly.
Residents have urged the Federal Minister for Communications and NHA authorities to take immediate notice and begin repair and rehabilitation work on an emergency basis.
