ISLAMABAD:

A Pakistani delegation, led by Senator Khalil Tahir Sandhu and Shahid Rehmat, attended the Paris Peace Forum 2025 — one of the world's leading platforms promoting collective action for "peace, people, and the planet", according to a press release issued on Thursday.

The delegation showcased Pakistan's active engagement in global dialogues on peace-building, inclusion, and social cohesion. It also explored partnerships with international organisations to expand cooperation on religious freedom, digital safety, and inclusive development, it said.

During the forum, the delegation met French President Emmanuel Macron, former New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern, the Paris Peace Forum secretary-general, members of the European Parliament, and several global peace activists and parliamentarians.

In their interactions, delegation members underscored Pakistan's key initiatives for peace-building, minority inclusion, and interfaith harmony — including the Punjab Interfaith Harmony Policy, the Minority Advisory Council, and partnerships with civil society to promote tolerance.

"Pakistan is taking bold and meaningful steps to institutionalise peace and inclusion," Sandhu, the only Christian member of the Pakistan Senate, said, adding: "Diversity is our strength and unity our future. Every citizen, regardless of religion or background, deserves justice, dignity, and equal opportunity."

He added: "Engaging with world leaders and sharing Pakistan's journey of coexistence was both humbling and hopeful. We return home inspired to strengthen partnerships that make peace real in people's lives."

Shahid Rehmat, executive director of the Youth Development Foundation (YDF), highlighted how Pakistani youth are driving grassroots change through dialogue, digital innovation, and social entrepreneurship.

"At YDF, we believe peace begins with people," Rehmat said. "Through our youth-led programmes, we are building bridges across faiths and communities, empowering thousands to become champions of tolerance and coexistence."
