Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially started his federal prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.

The hip-hop mogul, sentenced to 50 months in prison, was transferred early Thursday morning and checked into the low-security facility, according to law enforcement sources.

Judge Arun Subramanian approved Diddy’s request to serve his time at Fort Dix, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons granted it, citing that the facility offers better access to drug abuse treatment, family visitation, and rehabilitation programs.

Diddy, who had been held without bail at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his 2024 arrest, will now spend the next two and a half years at Fort Dix. His legal team described the move as a positive change in conditions after his time at MDC, which is known for overcrowding and harsh environments.

Despite being in a lower-security prison, concerns remain for Diddy’s safety. His attorney, Mark Geragos, previously said that Combs will likely have “a target on his back” wherever he serves time. Reports from his sentencing revealed that Diddy had already faced threats behind bars, including an incident where an inmate allegedly held a knife to his neck.

The Bureau of Prisons currently projects Diddy’s release date as May 8, 2028, though that timeline could change based on behavior and program participation. For now, the Bad Boy Records founder begins a new chapter behind bars, with hopes of rehabilitation and rebuilding his life post-incarceration.
