Bugti unveils police reforms, merit hiring

CM pledges Rs10b for modernisation, integration of forces

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced that all future appointments of Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) in the Balochistan police will be carried out through departmental recruitment to ensure transparency, merit, and professionalism within the force.

During his visit to the Central Police Office (CPO) Quetta, the Chief Minister laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs' Monument, offered prayers, and paid glowing tributes to the fallen heroes of the Balochistan police. Later, he presided over a high-level meeting on police affairs, reviewing key administrative, operational, and structural matters.

CM Bugti reviewed progress on integrating the Levies Force into the provincial police and directed authorities to expedite the process for improved coordination and efficiency. He underscored the need to modernize policing standards to effectively meet evolving security challenges, describing the police as "the backbone of peace and order in the province."

The Chief Minister revealed that the federal government has pledged Rs10 billion to support the integration of the emergency police force into the provincial setup. He said the funds would be utilized to strengthen operational capacity, enhance logistics, and equip police units with modern facilities and advanced technology.

The meeting approved new initiatives to introduce forensic and digital investigation tools, upgrade communication systems, and enhance the capacity of Special Operations and Special Security Wings for better counterterrorism response. CM Bugti also emphasized the importance of continuous professional development through training, seminars, and simulation drills.

Reaffirming his government's commitment to supporting law enforcement, he assured that all necessary financial and administrative resources would be provided to ensure the police can perform their duties effectively. He also approved the enhancement of welfare and compensation packages for the families of martyred personnel.

Highlighting the bravery of police officials, the Chief Minister said their sacrifices for peace and security would never be forgotten.
