A Connecticut woman has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting a man while he was watching Toy Story with a child, authorities said.
State troopers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in Killingly on Monday, October 27, where they found 39-year-old Andrew Michael Olson of Canterbury suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Olson was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
A 12-year-old boy told authorities that he and Olson were watching the film when 65-year-old Michelle Yeagher entered the room and shot Olson, police reported.
Yeagher was found inside the home and detained by officers. She has been charged with murder, carrying a firearm while under the influence, risk of injury to a child, and first-degree reckless endangerment. Yeagher is being held on a $1 million bond.
According to the arrest report, Yeagher appeared highly intoxicated at the time of her arrest. She allegedly told troopers, “He tried to kill me… He came after me, I shot him.”
She later said she had been upset over events earlier in the day, drank alcohol, went to sleep, and woke up feeling terrified, prompting her to retrieve a gun from a safe. She claimed to have seen someone on the floor but could not fully recall the sequence of events.
Authorities have not disclosed the exact relationship between Yeagher, Olson, and the child. Olson was remembered in a GoFundMe set up to cover funeral costs as “a kind, generous man, and a loving father, son, brother, and friend” whose absence has left a “void that can never be filled.”
Yeagher is scheduled to appear in court on December 11, and it is unclear whether she has obtained legal representation.
