Amazon’s MMO New World ends content updates in 2026 following mass layoffs
Amazon confirms New World will no longer receive new content updates after 2026, though servers remain active

Amazon Game Studios has announced that its online role-playing game New World will no longer receive new content updates after 2026, marking a major shift for the title that once attracted over a million players at launch. The announcement came shortly after reports that Amazon plans to lay off thousands of employees globally.
In a statement posted on New World’s official website, the developers confirmed that Season 10 and the Nighthaven update would be the game’s final major content release.
“After an incredible journey with the community, New World has reached a point where it is no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates,” the studio said.
The team thanked players for their support, adding: “Your dedication and enthusiasm have made this New World adventure an unforgettable journey. It has been an honour to share Aeternum with you.”
While development of new content will cease, Amazon confirmed that New World will remain playable throughout 2026. Servers will stay online, with ongoing bug fixes and the in-game store still accessible. The studio has committed to giving players at least six months’ notice before any future shutdown.
To mark the game’s transition, the Nighthaven update and the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion have both been made free for all PC players.
Since its 2021 launch, New World has experienced a sharp decline in active players. At release, the game reached over 900,000 concurrent users on Steam, but player numbers dropped significantly within a year. Despite attempts to revive interest through console ports and seasonal events, Amazon appears ready to wind down its once-promising MMORPG.
