Sydney Sweeney’s surprise appearance on Fox’s World Series pregame coverage on Tuesday night prompted strong reactions across social media.

The actress, known for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, narrated the Game 4 opening sequence before the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the Toronto Blue Jays.

Appearing on screen with a Marilyn Monroe-inspired blonde hairstyle and red dress, Sweeney introduced the broadcast with a voiceover designed to build anticipation. “Given the setting,” she said, “it would be appropriate to dust the story with movie magic, right? Why not romanticise a bit?”

She continued: “Winning... real winning, isn’t polished. It’s earned. It’s everything you can’t fake. It’s beautiful on its own. Let’s just save the Hollywood for the ending. Welcome to Game 4 of the World Series on Fox.”

Viewers quickly took to social media to share mixed reactions. Some criticised Fox’s decision, with one post reading: “Why is Sydney Sweeney narrating my pregame hype video?” Another added: “The only thing more wooden than Sydney Sweeney’s delivery of that World Series hype spot is an actual baseball bat.”

Others suggested the reaction was politically charged, with one user writing: “Every liberal watching the World Series just lost their minds when Sydney Sweeney showed up.”

Following the broadcast, Sweeney was seen attending the game in Dodgers gear alongside former boxer Christy Martin, whom she portrays in her upcoming film Christy, set for release on November 7. The sports biopic follows Martin’s rise in boxing and her personal challenges outside the ring.
