Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh Transport Minister, at a press conference in Karachi, has announced that the Taj Haider Bridge has been opened to the public.

Memon said the bridge would initially operate one-way for ten days. He added that the old Jam Sadiq Bridge would be demolished and replaced with a larger structure.

The minister has previously confirmed that another bridge is being built alongside the Senator Taj Haider Bridge, which will complete a total of eight lanes. The inclusion of a separate cycling track aims to promote safety and smooth traffic flow.

"Additional bus routes would soon be introduced across the city, and the final phase of Shahrah-e-Bhutto would be completed by December." Acknowledging Karachi’s major traffic challenges, he said the new road would help ease congestion.

The minister stressed that Karachi remains a top priority, noting that people from across Pakistan come to the city for jobs and medical treatment. He said that, acting on the instructions of the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership, all provincial departments were working to improve conditions in the metropolis.

“The Sindh government is committed to providing a state-of-the-art transport and road system in Karachi to address the city’s long-standing traffic issues,” Memon said, noting that electric buses under the Yellow Line project will enhance environmental sustainability and travel comfort for commuters.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, Memon said the bridge was constructed under the supervision of the transport department and features dedicated lanes for public transport and cyclists, ensuring both safety and traffic efficiency.
