Colin Farrell has opened up about the future of The Penguin and how it connects to The Batman Part II.

Following its success on HBO Max, The Penguin became one of DC’s most acclaimed series, earning 24 Emmy nominations, including a win for Cristin Milioti. Initially designed as a limited series bridging Matt Reeves’ first two Batman films, its popularity has sparked demand for a second season.

While promoting his new Netflix film The Ballad of a Small Player, Farrell told ComicBook he’s unsure if a continuation will happen. “I’d bet against, but not by much,” he admitted. “The powers that be are thinking of storylines that could justify another eight hours because it all goes off Matt Reeves’s world.” He confirmed The Batman Part II will begin just weeks after the events of The Penguin, continuing Gotham’s chaotic power struggle.

Farrell also revealed that his character, Oz Cobb, will have a smaller role in The Batman Part II compared to the first film. Additionally, Reeves confirmed that Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Gigante won’t return in the sequel due to overlapping production timelines. Fans, however, remain hopeful after The Penguin’s finale teased Sofia’s connection to Selina Kyle.

With Reeves planning a third Batman movie, many fans believe a second season of The Penguin would help bridge the gap and expand on these characters. Still, Farrell emphasized that a continuation should only happen if the story warrants it. For now, the actor’s cautious optimism leaves the door open for Oz Cobb’s return in Gotham’s underworld.
