MQM-P hails legal victory on Karachi Master Plan

Accuses Sindh govt of corruption, floundering World Bank funds for solar projects

Opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan

KARACHI:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan has congratulated Advocate Tariq Mansoor and the party's legal team for achieving a legal victory regarding the Karachi Strategic Master Plan.

Addressing a press conference, flanked by members of the central committee and legal team, he said MQM-P would continue to fight for public issues through legal and political channels.

Hasan said the court had directed relevant institutions to ensure implementation of the master plan, leading to "shocking revelations of corruption." He lashed out at the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), calling it "another name for corruption and plunder." Originally developed with World Bank support in 2007 and approved in 2018, the plan was allegedly sidelined by the Sindh government. Hasan claimed its implementation would have dismantled building and water mafias, bankrupting PPP ministers. He also alleged that Rs26 billion was misappropriated under a solar energy project linked to Bilawal Bhutto's vision.

Hasan urged the military leadership to enforce the plan in cantonment areas, stating, "Karachi has become an orphan, and PPP is responsible."

Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi said MQM-P represents urban Sindh's majority and demanded master plans for Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Mirpurkhas. He confirmed that affidavits would be submitted to the Sindh High Court on December 2.

Advocate Tariq Mansoor accused the Sindh government of malafide intent, revealing that Rs2 billion was released for a new plan after MQM's petition. He warned public servants against participating in what he called a "conspiracy," citing UNODC frameworks that classify such actions as corruption.
